According to a report released by the head of the scientific board of the Iron Ore Association of Iran, there are 48 countries in the world that are active in the field of Iron Ore mining, but according to the percentage of production announced in 2021, there are 12 countries among the iron ore producers, with Australia, Brazil and China ranking first to third and Iran in ninth place.
Iran's Iron Ore production has been on the rise since 2017, while Australia, which has the world's largest Iron Ore reserves, has seen its production increase by zero, China by 6% and India by 44%. Iran's Iron Ore production reached 75 million tons in 2022, up from 40 million tons in 2017, representing an 88% increase in Iron Ore production in the last 6 years on a global basis.
As for the country's foreign trade, the volume of exports was about $0.8 billion in 2018 and 2019, while in 2020 and 2021, this figure decreased and reached $0.1 and $0.4 billion.
The upward trend in Iranian Iron Ore export prices started in 2015 and reached $162 per ton. This increase continued until 2021. In the last two years, it has decreased, falling to $118/t this year.
Based on 2021 production capacity, Iran has iron ore reserves for the next 36 years. In addition, Golgohar and Sangan Iron Ore reserves, which are considered the country's largest iron ore mines, have been reported at 1200 million tons and 1000 million tons, respectively.
