Inter-country competition and quotas in the steel pipe sector

SteelRadar's EU weekly quota filling assessment reveals the performance of countries in the steel pipe sector. India's leadership in stainless bar light profile, China's strength in seamless pipe production and Türkiye's efficiency in hollow sections determine the balance in the sector.

Inter-country competition and quotas in the steel pipe sector

In a period when some countries feel the need for additional quotas, the flat trend in the sector continues. Increasing raw material costs and political-economic events are affecting the industry and production sector globally. Pipe quota filling rates have also been slow for weeks. Although some countries have increased their filling rates, others continue at a low level. This situation causes the expected effect on production not to be seen.

Pipe and profile utilization rates in EU quotas are as follows;

Stainless Bar and Light Sections

India continues to be the leader in this category, using its entire quota of 31,678 tons.

Switzerland has an impressive demand fulfillment rate, utilizing 18.79% of its quota of 6,567 tons.

The United Kingdom has a balanced performance, using 11.56% of its quota of 7,190 tons.

Hollow Sections:

Macedonia has an impressive demand coverage rate for hollow sections, using 19.42% of its 39,266 tons quota.

Switzerland shows limited utilization in this area, using 1.39% of its quota of 30,861 tons.

The United Kingdom responds strongly to demand in this category, using 22.31% of its 72,880-ton quota.

Stainless Pipe (Seamless):

India leads the seamless stainless pipe category, using an impressive 89.76% of its quota of 5,870 tons.

South Korea holds a dominant position in the global market, accounting for 17.37% of its quota of 1,687 tons, Japan 17.42% and China 24.02%.

The UK has a limited impact in this area, using only 0.92% of its quota of 3,678 tons.

Seamless Steel Pipe:

China continues to be the leader in seamless steel pipe production, using an impressive 89.16% of its 38,319-ton quota.

The US shows some activity in this category, using 11.66% of its quota of 14,728 tons.

Welded Pipe:

Switzerland has limited influence in the welded pipe category, using 10.51% of its quota of 80,383 tons.

China holds a strong position in the global market, using an impressive 77.26% of its quota of 8,058 tons.

Taiwan, with 15.42% of its quota of 13,119 tons, the United Kingdom with 19.57% and Türkiye with 14.58% show their influence in this area.

Large Welded Pipe:

The United Kingdom performs effectively in the large welded pipe category, using 12.78% of its quota of 11,296 tons.

Türkiye largely supply the demand in this area with an impressive 88.33% of its quota of 14,905 tons.
