India recorded a significant volume of scrap imports in November 2024, highlighting its growing industrial needs. According to official data from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, England and America emerged as the leading suppliers of scrap to the country.

England topped the list with 1.450 million tons of scrap exports to India, while America followed closely with 1.376 million tons, securing the second position.

Top 5 Scrap Suppliers

India's top five scrap suppliers during this period were:

  1. England: 1.450 million tons
  2. America: 1.376 million tons
  3. United Arab Emirates (UAE): 820 thousand tons
  4. Singapore: 511 thousand tons
  5. Poland: 464 thousand tons

Other Key Suppliers

Following these top suppliers, Brazil (322 thousand tons) and Canada (317 thousand tons) also made significant contributions to India’s scrap imports. Additionally, Australia (198 thousand tons), Malaysia (196 thousand tons), Kuwait (193 thousand tons), Republic of Yemen (193 thousand tons), and Belgium (187 thousand tons) were noteworthy suppliers.

Regional Diversity in Imports

The data underscores India’s approach to diversifying its scrap import sources, spanning regions such as Western nations, Asia, the Middle East, and South America. This strategy reflects India’s effort to broaden its supply chain and secure consistent raw material availability for its growing industries.
