India's iron ore production increased by 15% on an annual basis in the April-September period of 2023, compared to 111.5 million tonnes in 2022, reaching approximately 130 million tonnes. Ore production in India in FY23 stood at 255 million tonnes.
This increase in iron ore production is thought to be due to India's increasing exports in the first half of 2023.
According to current data, Odisha is the leading iron ore producing state in the country. The city's production reached 70 million tons in the first half of 2023, with an annual increase of 14% compared to 2022. Odisha accounts for 54% of India's iron ore production.
Chhattisgarh was the city that ranked second, accounting for 15% of India's iron ore production. It increased its production by approximately 10% to 19 million tons in the first half of 2023.
The third-ranked city, Karnataka, increased its production by 30% year-on-year to 19 million tons.
