India's imports of hot-rolled flat rolled steel increased by 24% in August from the previous month to 348,182 tons. This marks the third monthly increase in a row. India's hot rolled steel exports also increased by 270% to 126,302 tons in August. However, India continued to be a net importer in August. In July, imports of hot rolled flat steel increased by 34% to 279,956 tons. India became a net importer at the end of the 2024 fiscal year and continued to be so in 2025.
Vietnam, South Korea, Japan and China highlighted India's of hot-rolled flat rolled steel imports in August. Vietnam was the largest HRC supplier, with the country's of hot-rolled flat rolled steel imports reaching 152,609 tons, up 1,971% from the previous month. Apl Apollo Tubes was the largest importer with 32,548 tons, while Smart Timing Steel stood out as the main supplier. Other major importers included Colorshine India 21,798 tons and Hariom Pipe Industries 15,738 tons. Hong Kong Kamtai Trading and Hangzhou Cogenration Hong Kong Company were the main suppliers.
Mumbai and Chennai were the main Indian ports for these shipments, while Son Duong port was the main point for shipments from Vietnam.
