In June 2024, 71 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) produced a total of 161.4 million tonnes of crude steel, an increase of 0.5% compared to June 2023.
The top three countries on the list were China with 91.6 million tons, India with 12.3 million tons, and finally Japan with 7 million tons.
According to the data prepared by Worldsteel, India, which ranks 2nd in the list of 71 countries, produced 12.3 million tons of crude steel, an increase of 6% compared to June 2023. It recorded a moderate increase of 0.82% compared to the production of 12.2 million tons in May.
The country's total crude steel production in the January-June period increased by 7.4% compared to the same period last year, reaching 74.2 million tons.
Although imports have increased recently in India, steel production and consumption continue to rise.
