India is reportedly considering extending its coke import restrictions from June 30th to January 1st, 2025.
India, which has the largest global share of coke imports, announced on December 26, 2024 that it would impose restrictions on coke imports and that these restrictions would be effective in the first half of 2025. At the time of implementation, the restrictions were set at 1.4 million tons, which was a major limitation after 2.4 million tons of imports in the first half of 2024. However, the restrictions are expected to be extended due to the stagnation in local production.
The HS Codes of the products covered by the restrictions are 27040020, 27040030, 27040040, 27040090. With key players such as China, Australia and Japan affected, local producers are concerned about access to quality raw materials.
