India is approaching its 2030 target

According to India's energy minister, the country is making significant progress towards its goal of generating half of its installed power capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030.

India is approaching its 2030 target

As of October 31 this year, India's installed power generation capacity from non-fossil fuels stood at about 186 GW, which is 44% of the total installed capacity. Of this capacity, 179 GW is renewable and 7 GW is nuclear.

Additionally, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy R. K. Singh told the parliament on December 5 that there is currently a capacity of 114.08 GW in implementation and another 55 GW capacity is at the tender stage.

The Minister emphasized that approximately 50% of India's renewable energy development funds have been used in the first 10 months of this year.

India's installed renewable energy capacity is the second fastest growing among the leading countries in the Asia-Pacific region after China.

India supports the goal of tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030, but has not joined the overall commitment made by some 118 governments at the ongoing COP28 climate summit.
