The total emission of greenhouse gases in China's steel industry in January to June 2024 has increased by 5.9% compared to the same period of the previous year.
According to Iran Steel, last year, in line with their ambitions to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, Chinese authorities did not impose restrictions on steel production, which helped to increase the production and income of local steelmakers. At the same time, in 2021-2022, the downward trend in this industry was supported by the respective restrictions. Therefore, in 2023, carbon emissions increased by 7.8% annually.
To remind, China increased steel production in 2023 by 0.6% compared to 2022 to 1.019 billion tons. Therefore, the downward trend of the country's steel industry has stopped after two consecutive years of production reduction.
