Mexico experienced a notable year-on-year increase in consumption of cold rolled coils (CRC) in March 2024, with volumes reaching around 385,000 metric tons. This represents the fourth record high in the past 27 months, as reported by Canacero, the national steel industry association.
In contrast to the rise in consumption, Mexico's CRC production declined by 7.9% compared to the same period last year, totaling 245,000 metric tons. Imports of CRC, however, rose significantly, with a 43.4% increase from last March, bringing the total to 152,000 metric tons. Meanwhile, exports of CRC saw a considerable decrease, dropping 35% year-on-year to just 13,000 metric tons.
