March 2022 was the weakest March in almost 50 years in terms of automobile production.
In January-March 2023, production amounted to 1.1 million units, which is 39% more than in the first quarter of 2022. The figures still remain below pre-Covid levels, with 9% fewer vehicles leaving the factories than in the first quarter of 2019.
However, first-quarter production was higher than predicted in previous estimates.
So far, 3.69 million cars have been produced for the full year, a 6% increase over 2022. It is now estimated to increase by 9% to 3.79 million units. However, the production level will continue to be 21% below pre-Covid levels, with 4.66 million units produced in 2019.
