The ‘Anatolia's 500 Largest Companies’ research, which was carried out for the 21st time this year by the Ekonomist Magazine, once again revealed the performance of companies operating in production centres outside Türkiye's three major cities. The research, which was first published in 2004 and examined the impact of companies called Anatolian Tigers on production, exports and employment, revealed important results this year as well.
Tosçelik did not leave the top
Tosçelik, a subsidiary of Tosyalı Holding, continued its success by topping the list for the ninth time since 2013. The company has held this title for eight years. In the second place of the list is Kardemir, which ranked fourth in 2021 and fifth in 2022. Yıldız Entegre, which ranked seventh last year, drew attention by taking the third place.
Turnover Continues to Increase, Exports and Employment Decrease
Due to the depreciation of the Turkish lira and high inflation, the total turnover of Anadolu 500 companies increased by 119% in 2022 and exceeded 1.9 trillion TL. In 2023, although growth slowed down, total turnover reached 2 trillion 718 billion 486 million TL with an increase of 40%.
However, despite this increase in turnover, exports and employment continued to decrease. As in previous years, 2023 was a period in which Anatolia 500 companies were adversely affected by the difficulties in global trade and local economic conditions.
Development of Anatolian Tigers Continues
The companies referred to as Anatolian Tigers at the beginning of the 2000s attracted attention with their production and growth performances, and today they continue to stand out with their contribution to Türkiye's total production capacity and economy. The research proved once again that companies operating in Anatolia have become important players not only in their own regions but also at the national and international level.
Expectations in the New Period
The decline in the impact of high inflation and exchange rate fluctuations may provide an opportunity for Anatolia 500 companies to compensate for their losses in exports and employment. Experts state that especially technology investments and innovative solutions in production can increase the global competitiveness of these companies.
Economist Magazine's Anatolia 500 survey once again emphasises the importance of Anatolia in Türkiye's production and exports, and shows that regional development is a critical element for sustainable growth.
