The amount of scrap metal exported in February 2023 was 16.5 thousand tons, which is 7.9 times more than in January 2023 and an increase of 98.8%. During this time, 0.04 thousand tons of scrap metal were imported, but in February 2022 and January 2023, no scrap was brought in.
When compared to the prior month, scrap supplies to Ukrainian steel companies increased by 43.3% in February 2023, but fell by 73% the following February, to 70.8 thousand tons.
When compared to the same time period in 2022, the amount of scrap metal collected fell by 70.8%, to 152.2 thousand tons, in January and February 2023. During this time, scrap exports totaled 24.8 thousand tons, a 3.5 times year-over-year increase, and imports totaled 0.04 thousand tons, a year-over-year decrease of 60%.
Scrap supplies to Ukrainian steel mills fell by 75.4 percent year over year to 120.2 thousand tons in January–February 2023.
As of March 1, 2023, technological scrap metal inventories at steel companies are projected to be between 15,000 and 20,000 tons. There is a good amount of overlap in the number of things that were able to fully participate in the selection process.
Scrap collection in Ukraine is expected to reach 850–880,000 tons in 2023. The amount of domestic raw material supplies for steel plants will be between 720 and 750 thousand tons.
