Based on data provided by Mexico's steel industry association (Canacero), in December 2023, imports of steel into Mexico reached approximately 848,000 tons, marking a 7.2% increase compared to the previous year. Throughout 2023, the total steel imports for Mexico amounted to around 10.35 million tons, showing a y-o-y growth of 21.3%.
US had the largest share of imports
The US emerged as the primary source of imports, accounting for 4.07 million tons, indicating an 11.1% increase compared to previous year. Following closely was South Korea, contributing roughly 1.94 million tons, with a y-o-y growth of 4.4%.
