Imports of railway fasteners broke a record in July

The railway sector is highlighted by data reflecting the significant changes in the amount of imported railway fasteners between 2022 and 2023. These data reveal the impact of increases and decreases on the sector in the light of the objectives of strengthening and expanding the railway infrastructure.

Imports of railway fasteners broke a record in July

Imports of railway fasteners reached the highest import figure of recent years in July 2023.

Imports of railway fasteners, which was 427 tonnes in July 2022, increased 25 times in the same month of this year and amounted to 10,828 tonnes. This figure was recorded as the highest import figure in 1 month in recent years.

According to the data compiled by Steel Radar from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK); when the import figures for the January-July period of 2022-2023 are analysed, the import amount, which was 4,253 tonnes in January 2022, decreased by 57.7% to 1,796 tonnes in January 2023. In February, last year's import figure of 672 tonnes increased by 7.8% to 725 tonnes. Likewise, imports increased by 81.2% from 1,694 tonnes in March to 3,069 tonnes in the same month of 2023. While 4,996 tonnes were imported in April 2022, this figure decreased by 11.52% to 4,420 tonnes in the same month of 2023. The import amount of 331 tonnes in May increased 21 times to 7,098 tonnes this year. The import figure, which was 737 tonnes in June 2022, increased by 22.88% to 906 tonnes in the same month of this year. In July, imports reached the highest figure of recent years. The import figure, which was 427 tonnes in 2022, increased by 2439.49% in the same month of this year and amounted to 10,828 tonnes.

"120% increase in 7 months"

In the January-July period of 2022, total imports were 13,110 tonnes, while this figure increased by 120% to 28,842 tonnes in the same period of 2023. While the total import figure for the whole of 2022 was 20,096 tonnes, imports in the seven-month period of 2023 exceeded the total import figure of 2022.

These changes in the imports of railway fasteners are important in terms of reflecting the growth and change dynamics of the railway sector.
