Import scrap prices in Vietnam decrease

Japanese and Australian origin offers decrease.

Import scrap prices in Vietnam decrease

Import cast iron scrap prices in Vietnam decreased by 2 USD/t on a yearly basis. This is parallel to domestic scrap prices remaining stable and below overseas prices. Offers for Japanese H2 grade scrap are currently at USD 355-360/t CFR Vietnam, down from USD 362-365/t CFR the previous week. Buyers in Vietnam prefer to purchase local scrap at prices around USD 340/t. The general trend is for buyers to remain cautious in the market and activity to decrease.

Offers for Australian HMS (80:20) HMS (80:20) bulk scrap decreased by USD 5-7/t from the previous week to USD 372-375/t CFR Vietnam, while US scrap was offered at USD 374-378/t CFR. According to a buyer source, US sellers have more options, leading to higher prices compared to Australian scrap.

According to a buyer source, offers only came in last week at USD 345-355/t CFR Vietnam, or around 311.50-318.50 USD/t FOB Japan when freight is taken into account.

According to reports, H2 export prices were set at 311.50-315.00 USD/t FOB Japan on Friday. This represents a decrease of USD 14.00/t from the previous week, while the previous levels were USD 325.50-329.00/t.

Heavy scrap (HS) and Shindachi offers were lower compared to the previous days as suppliers decreased to around USD 395-400/t CFR Vietnam. Other suppliers offered USD 357.00-364.00/t FOB Japan for the scrap, but no deals have been reached yet.

Offers in Vietnam were around USD 5-8/t lower than last week. Shredded scrap prices showed a similar decrease.
