According to the data released by the World Steel Association, global crude steel production has increased 100 times in the last 72 years. Global steel production was observed to increase from 189 million tons in 1950 to 1.885 million tons in 2022.
According to the data of 2022 announced, all of the affiliated companies (Mobarakeh Steel Company, Esfahan Steel Company, Khuzestan Steel Company and National Iranian Steel Company) of IMIDRO (Iranian Mines & Mining Industries Development & Renovation), which is one of the major mining sectors of Iran, ranked 23rd with 16.70 million tons of crude steel production in 2021, it increased its production to 18 million tons in 2022 and ranked 20th among the world's largest steel companies. In addition, Iran was recognized as the tenth steel producing country in the world with a crude steel production of 30.6 million tons.
The total production of sponge iron in the world in 2022 has been announced as 125 million 100 thousand tons, of which India is at the top of the world with the production of 42 million 300 thousand tons. With the production of 32 million and 900 thousand tons of sponge iron, Iran was able to achieve the first place in Asia and the second place in the production of this product in the world.
