İDDMİB Supervisors Board Member Kaya; "Stainless steel anti-dumping tax should be revoked"

Istanbul Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters' Association (İDDMİB) Supervisory Board Member Fikret Kaya stated that the 8% anti-dumping duty on stainless steel, Türkiye's main raw material, should be repealed.

İDDMİB Supervisors Board Member Kaya; "Stainless steel anti-dumping tax should be revoked"

Member of the Supervisory Board of İDDMİB Fikret Kaya pointed out that anti-dumping duties put the stainless steel industry in a difficult situation and negatively affected the chances of competing with Asian producers. Kaya; " The biggest problem in here is the 8 percent anti-dumping applied to stainless steel, which is our main raw material. The anti-dumping makes it very difficult for us to compete with producers in Asia. We sell the scrap we export very cheaply. When we use ferrochrome, we will provide 24 percent added value in the cost of stainless raw material alone and we will be quite competitive."

Fikret Kaya emphasized China's success in stainless steel production and stated that Türkiye should follow a model similar to China's. However, he added that anti-dumping duties reduce the cost advantage and lower Türkiye's chances of competition.

"Antidumping should not be effective in raw materials"

Member of the Supervisory Board of İDDMİB, stating that Türkiye's stainless steel production capacity should increase and the raw material should be produced in Türkiye, said: "The most important thing at this point is the production of stainless steel in Türkiye. We are in contact with the ministries by bringing together various associations on this issue. Türkiye is trying to make all kinds of national products. But there should be absolutely no anti-dumping in raw materials. Because raw material is the most important cost element of an industry. We define the biggest problem here as the 8 percent anti-dumping applied to stainless steel, which is our main raw material."

Kaya emphasized that the stainless steel sector plays an important role in Türkiye's exports and said that the sector can produce more by increasing its capacity and increase its export potential. He also stated that companies in the sector should be supported and encouraged, and emphasized that Türkiye can become more competitive in the stainless steel sector.
