This collaboration aims to enhance the supply of emission-free green steel across Europe, with both companies committed to advancing sustainability within the steel industry.
Under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding, Knauf Interfer will procure green steel from Hydnum Steel, with an estimated annual value of approximately €80 million. Furthermore, the partnership plans to establish a green steel supply network centered around Knauf Interfer's trimodal hub in Duisburg, Germany. This strategic location will optimize logistics, ensuring efficient and effective delivery to Central European markets.
Future initiatives also include collaboration in steel product processing, wherein Knauf Interfer will provide tailored cutting, segmentation, and re-coiling services for Hydnum Steel's customers. In addition, transparency regarding the carbon footprint of their steel products will be ensured through Knauf Interfer's straightforward Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) approach.
In alignment with their sustainability goals, the two companies plan to develop a circular economy system for the recycling of ferrous scrap. This innovative framework will facilitate the recycling of scrap generated within Knauf Interfer’s network at Hydnum Steel’s Puertollano plant, thereby closing the production loop and fostering a comprehensive circular economy.
