The contract of lease between the board of bankruptcy trustee and Węglokoks, which expires in November 2024, cleared the way for the start of production. It was announced that the first phase, the so-called cold start, is scheduled to start on 20 December, despite various technological challenges from external suppliers.
Despite the higher than anticipated costs for this stage expected, the plans for the on-time re-launch of the plant successfully completed.
It was emphasised that the cold start is an important preparatory phase to prepare for the restart of production processes and allows the commissioning of key equipment and systems in the steel mill, such as blast furnaces, power systems and control and measurement mechanisms, before steel melting takes place.
