According to data provided by the South African Revenue Service (SARS), there has been a significant change in HRC exports.

HRC exports to South Africa decrease in June

In June 2024, HRC exports decreased by a massive 52.5% compared to the same period last year. Exports in June 2024 were also decreased by 9.9% compared to the previous month of May.

On the other hand, HRC exports generally increased in January-June 2024. In this period, HRC exports increased by 3.2% compared to the same period last year. Exports increased from 53,104 tons in January-June last year to 54,783 tons this year.

This data reveals that despite the significant decrease in June, the overall export volume increased in the first half of the year. It is stated that more analysis is needed on the reasons for the decrease and its effects on the sector.

Kenya with 4,726 tonnes, Sri Lanka with 4,493 tonnes and Tanzania with 4,113 tonnes are the countries exporting semi-finished products to South Africa.
