The number of house sales across Türkiye increased by 20.1% in February compared to the same period last year, reaching 112 thousand 818. According to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), there was a 0.57% increase in house sales compared to January.
Most House Sales were Made in İstanbul
The highest number of house sales in February was recorded in İstanbul with 19 thousand 347 units. İstanbul was followed by Ankara with 10 thousand 791 house sales and İzmir with 6 thousand 899 houses. The provinces with the least number of houses sold were Ardahan with 24 houses, Tunceli with 70 houses and Bayburt with 73 houses.
Decrease in Housing Sales to Foreigners Continues
House sales to foreigners decreased by 21.1% in February compared to the same month of the previous year and were recorded as 1,457. The share of these sales in total house sales was realized as 1.3%.
In February, the highest number of house sales was realized in Istanbul (539 units), while Antalya ranked second with 503 sales. Mersin ranked third with 89 house sales.
According to country nationalities, the highest number of house sales was made to Russian citizens. In February, Russian citizens bought 256 houses, followed by Iranians with 133 houses and Iraqis with 99 houses.
In the January-February period, total house sales to foreigners decreased by 23.1% compared to the same period of the previous year and became 3 thousand 4.
Mortgaged House Sales Increased by 90.1%
Mortgaged house sales in Türkiye increased by 90.1% on an annual basis in February and were recorded as 16 thousand 778. The share of these sales in total house sales was recorded as 14.9%.
In the January-February period, mortgaged sales increased by 127.3% compared to the same period of the previous year and were recorded as 33 thousand 504.
Increase in First and Second Hand House Sales
In February, first-hand house sales increased by 18.2% compared to the same month of the previous year and realized as 33 thousand 784. The share of first-hand house sales in total sales was determined as 29.9%.
Second-hand house sales increased by 21% to 79 thousand 34 in February. The share of these sales in total sales was calculated as 70.1%.
In the January-February period, first-hand house sales increased by 23.6% to 66 thousand 569, while second-hand sales increased by 31.6% to 158 thousand 422.
February house sales data showed that the demand for housing increased across Türkiye and mortgaged sales increased significantly.
