The company is expected to finalize its evaluations and announce its official decision in a month or two. Honda Türkiye Deputy General Manager Bülent Kılıçer said, “We will clarify which model will be produced and with which capacity in the coming process. We plan to complete our studies in a short time and announce our decision.”
Aegean Region is in the Spotlight for Production
While no official announcement has been made about which region the company will prefer for its production facility, it is rumored that the Aegean Region stands out in the backstage. In the region, where Chinese automotive manufacturer BYD is also investing, Manisa and Izmir may be preferred due to their industrial infrastructure and logistics advantages.
New Tax Scheme Increased Prices
The new taxation regulation, which entered into force in February, caused serious increases especially in motorcycle prices. The customs surveillance tax increase of up to 400% pushed up the prices of imported motorcycles, while giving domestic producers an advantage. Honda officials stated that the scooter segment constitutes the majority of the market and that price increases may be reflected in sales.
15% Decline in Sales Expected
Commenting on whether there will be a contraction in the market after the tax increases, Honda officials stated that the demand for motorcycles remains high, but there may be a 15-20% decline in sales due to price increases. “The motorcycle market is growing every day, but we will see the effect of price increases on sales more clearly over time,” the officials said.
If Honda decides to manufacture in Türkiye, the new investment is expected to be an important turning point especially in the motorcycle sector.
