Honda and POSCO announced that they have started research studies for zero carbon with the agreement they made. Acting with the vision of leaving a sustainable world to future generations, the two companies decided to expand their cooperation in order to realize their common goals. In this direction, both companies will benefit from their strengths such as environment and electrification technologies.
Battery is one of the most important issues
Honda and POSCO will explore cooperation options to be implemented in key areas identified for zero carbon targets. One of the important areas identified is the battery. Cooperation in the supply of basic battery materials is very important. The status of technical change in battery materials in the future is also among the issues to be considered. In the scope of the research; There is also the establishment of a closed-loop recycling system using recycled battery materials. Substantial steps are being taken towards the realization of a carbon-neutral society.
Sheet metal research should be carried out in order for the agreement to achieve its purpose.
For the use of automotive steel sheet used in production, ultra-high tensile sheet metal that reduces vehicle weight and sheet metal that reduces greenhouse gas emissions during the production process will be included in the scope of the research. The application of electric steel sheet in the mass production of drive motors for the e-Axle (electric axle drive) will also be among the points to be explored.
Honda relies on POSCO's expertise
Expressing his views in the statement, Honda Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Toshihiro Mibe stated that "the expanded cooperation with POSCO, which they believe in expertise in battery materials, recycling, steel sheet and electric steel sheet, will accelerate Honda's electrification strategies." Mibe stated that they have announced zero carbon targets for all Honda products and corporate activities by 2050.
POSCO President Choi Jeong-Woo expressed their satisfaction with the expansion of their ongoing cooperation with Honda. The President emphasized that the full value chain can be created by including Honda's electric vehicles in the process, especially in research on battery materials.
These two brands, which are among the best in their sectors, will continue to work to reach their zero carbon targets by taking advantage of each other's strengths.
