Vietnam's leading steelmaker Hoa Phat Group held a ceremony for the first container shipment on August 4. The company delivered 100 of the 20ft containers to New Way Lines Company at the ceremony and placed a new order for 500 of the 20ft containers.
Construction of Hoa Phat's container factory at Phu My II Industrial Park in Vung Tau began in November 2021. A total of 500,000 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) containers will be produced at the facility each year. It currently produces up to 200,000 TEUs per year. Hoa Phat will focus on the production of popular 20- and 40-foot-long container products.
Market researchers have learned that Hoa Phat will use approximately 1 million tons/year of hot rolled coils, producing containers with a capacity of 500,000 TEU/year.
It was also announced that the shipping containers are made from Hoa Phat's own HRC products, such as weatherproof and expensive SPA-H steel.
