High-purity iron ore added to Canada's Critical Mineral List

In a strategic move to bolster its green economy, Canada has added high-purity iron ore to its Critical Minerals List. This update, announced by Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, highlights the country's commitment to leading in sustainable and low-carbon technologies, particularly in the green steel sector.

High-purity iron ore added to Canada's Critical Mineral List

The inclusion of high-purity iron ore is a significant step, recognizing its vital role in transitioning to more sustainable industrial practices and reducing global carbon emissions.

The designation of high-purity iron ore as a critical mineral in Canada brings numerous advantages. It boosts both government and private investment in mining and processing technologies, spurs research and innovation for more efficient extraction and processing and ensures the sustainability of this valuable resource.

Situated in the Labrador Trough in Canada, which houses one of the world’s largest reserves of high-purity iron ore,  Champion Iron Limited has strongly endorsed the recent inclusion of high-purity iron ore on Canada's Critical Minerals List. Champion Iron operates the Bloom Lake Mining Complex, known for its production of high-grade iron ore concentrates powered largely by renewable energy.
