Swiss Steel Group (SSG) has turned a clean slate for its Green Steel initiative for ecologically produced low-emission steel.
"Green Steel is therefore not only a tool that helps to reduce emissions, but also aims to help customers and partners and encourage them to do more to reduce climate change, ” the compony said.
It is believed that the tasks of SSG's production sites and scientific laboratories have therefore been greatly expanded with Green Steel. The steelmaker says that Green Steel makes them platforms for technology, experimentation and innovation, the horizon and influence of which extends far beyond the steel industry.
The company says that steel as a material contains a very high percentage of what is known as “embodied energy”, which is part of almost every product and many services.
Its white paper is divided into Scope 1: Hydrogen instead of natural gas; Scope 2: Green power instead of embodied energy; Scope 3: High-alloy scrap instead of alloy metals. In addition, worthless waste heat and costly traction energy as a resource are treated as a signal for Green Steel and other industries as a research and technology platform.
