According to Midrex's report, global direct reduced iron (DRI) production set a record in 2023 with a 6.5% y-o-y increase to 135.7 million tons.
Over the last five years, DRI production worldwide has grown by 26% to 27.6 million tons. In 2023, Midrex plants produced 75.7 million tons of DRI, an increase of 3% compared to 2022. Midrex Technology continued its dominance in this area, accounting for around 80% of global DRI production by shaft furnaces.
Midrex's plants outside Russia and Iran produced a total of 41.64 million tons of DRI, while production in these two countries was 34.36 million tons. By the end of 2023, the Midrex Plants realized a total cumulative production of approximately 1,400 Mt for all types of DRI (CDRI, HDRI and HBI).
