The World Steel Association (WorldSteel) announced crude steel production figures for March 2025. Accordingly, world crude steel production of 69 countries increased by 2.9% y/y to 166.1 million tons (Mt) in March 2025.
Crude steel production by region
In March, Africa's crude steel production increased by 0.6% y/y to 1.9 million tons. Production in the Asia and Oceania region increased by 3.9% to 123.6 million tons. The EU (27) produced 11.7 million tons of steel, an increase of 0.2%, while the rest of Europe produced 3.6 million tons, a decrease of 7.2%. Production in the Middle East increased by 1.9% to 5.3 million tons. In North America, production increased by 1.4% to 9.2 million tons. Production in Russia and other Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries and Ukraine decreased by 3.5% to 7.1 million tons.
China's crude steel production increased by 4.6% y/y to 92.8 million tons in March. India's crude steel output increased by 7% to 13.8 million tons, while Japan's output increased by 0.2% to 7.2 million tons. The US produced 6.7 million tons of steel, a decrease of 1.5%, while Russia is estimated to have produced 6.2 million tons, decreasing by 3.2%. South Korea's output decreased by 5.3% to 5 million tons.Germany produced 3.1 million tons of crude steel, a decrease of 11.7%, Türkiye 3.1 million tons, a decrease of 2.8%, and Brazil 2.9 million tons, a increase of 6.6%. Iran's production increased by 3.7% to 3.3 million tons.
