According to the World Steel Association (Worldsteel), global crude steel production in April 2023 decreased by 2.4% y-o-y and 3.1% m-o-m to 161.4 million tonnes.
Between January and April this year, global crude steel production decreased by 0.3% y-o-y to 622.7 million tonnes.
In April, crude steel production in Asia decreased by 1.5% to 121.1 million tonnes, with China's production down 1.5% to 92.6 million tonnes and Japan's production down 3.1% to 7.2 million tonnes. India and South Korea produced 10.7 million tonnes and 5.7 million tonnes, up 3.2% and 3%, respectively.
The EU-27 produced 11.1 million tonnes of crude steel in April, down 11.7% y-o-y.
Steel production in the CIS was 7.5 million tonnes, up 5.9% y-o-y, while output in Russia was estimated at 6.4 million tonnes, down 1.9% y-o-y.
Crude steel production in North America was 9.2 million tonnes in April, down 4.6% y-o-y, while output in the US was 6.6 million tonnes, down 5.3% y-o-y.
Crude steel output in South America was 3.6 million tonnes in March, down 2.2% y-o-y, while Brazil's total output was 2.8 million tonnes, down 5.9% y-o-y.
Africa produced 1.3 million tonnes of crude steel in the reporting month, up 4.8% y-o-y.
