The World Steel Association (WorldSteel) has released the crude steel production figures for July 2024. According to the data released, global crude steel production from 71 countries in July 2024 decreased by 4.7% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 152.8 million tonnes (Mt).
Crude Steel production by region
In July, Africa's crude steel production increased by 4% compared to the same period last year, reaching 2 million tonnes. In the Asia and Oceania region, production decreased by 6.4% to 120.6 million tonnes. The EU (27) produced 10.8 million tonnes of steel, an increase of 5.7%, while other European regions produced 3.7 million tonnes, an increase of 0.6%. In the Middle East, production decreased by 10.1% to 3.7 million tonnes. In North America, production was recorded at 8.8 million tonnes, a decrease of 2.4%. Production in Russia and other Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries and Ukraine decreased by 0.8% to 7.5 million tonnes. South America produced 3.7 million tonnes of crude steel, an increase of 6.0%.
China, which ranked first in the world in crude steel production in July, produced 82.9 million tons, decreased by 9.0% y/y. India's crude steel production increased by 6.8% to 12.3 million tons, while Japan's production decreased by 3.8% to 7.1 million tons. The US produced 6.9 million tons of steel, increased by 2.1%, while Russia produced 6.3 million tons, decreased by 3.1%. South Korea's production decreased by 3.4% to 5.5 million tons. Germany produced 3.1 million tons, increased by 4.8%, Türkiye produced 3.1 million tons, increased by 4%, and Brazil produced 3.1 million tons of crude steel, increased by 11.6%. Iran's production decreased by 18.7% to 1.8 million tons.
