According to information obtained by SteelRadar from the World Steel Association (worldsteel), Germany's crude steel production in July 2024 increased by 4.8% compared to the same month of the previous year, rising to 3.1 million tons. However, this figure represented a 3.2% decrease compared to the previous month of June when Germany produced 3.2 million tons of crude steel.
For the January-July period of 2024, total crude steel production increased by 4.5% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 22.5 million tons. In the global crude steel ranking for July, Germany maintained its 7th position, coming ahead of Türkiye.
According to July data from the German Steel Federation Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl (WV Stahl), during this period, hot-rolled steel production increased by 3% y/y to 2.6 million tons, and pig iron production increased by 2.4% to 2.1 million tons.
WV Stahl has stated that due to concerns about an economic recession, many significant steel processing industries and steel demand have not exhibited strong performance. The company anticipates that steel volumes will remain weak this year, and the economic recovery is not expected to be evident until next year.
