According to information from the World Steel Association (worldsteel), steel production in Germany reached 3 million tons in September, increased by 4.3% compared to the same month of the previous year.
Production in the first nine months of 2024 increased by 4% to 28.4 million tons. However, despite the monthly and annual increases, the overall decrease in production has resulted in Germany ranking eighth in the crude steel production ranking.
Production of steel by blast furnace (BOF) decreased in September by 4% compared to the same period of the previous year to 1.9 million tons. Oxygen steelmaking increased by 1.5% to 19.9 million tons in the January-September period. Production at electric arc furnaces (EAF) increased by 25.9% to 996 thousand tons in September, and in the nine-month period it was reported to have increased by 10.4% to 8.4 million tons.
Pig iron production decreased by 5% to 1.8 million tons in September. Production in the first nine months of the year decreased by 1.6% to 18.3 million tons. During the same period, production of hot-rolled steel products increased by 7.9% monthly to 2.5 million tons and by 3.2% in the January-September period to 24.2 million tons.
