German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a joint press conference after meeting with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in the capital Berlin.
Stating that Western countries should stand together in the Ukraine crisis, Scholz said that close talks were held in NATO and the European Union (EU) on this issue.
Scholz stated that he discussed the Ukraine conflict in detail with US President Joe Biden, and that he will hold these meetings in Kiev and Moscow next week.
Pointing to French President Emmanuel Macron's meetings in Russia, Scholz said, "What I will say there will take place as President Macron said there at the beginning of this week." used the phrase.
Stating that his visit to the USA was important, Scholz noted that they reached an agreement on many points during their meeting with Biden.
Scholz answered the questions of journalists about whether the Nord Stream 2 Gas Pipeline project would be among the possible sanctions against Russia, as follows:
"We agree that we will act together in the sanctions that will be taken. The sanctions are very well prepared. When this situation arises, we can make the decision, together with Germany and the USA, the EU and the USA and NATO. I believe this is very effective. This message is understood in Russia. (Sanction) "We've decided not to reveal the full catalogue, and I think that makes sense. The fact that what we're going to do is not measurable in concrete terms adds a little bit more strength."
Prime Minister Scholz stated that due to the recent diplomatic efforts, there have been many developments compared to a few weeks ago, and pointed out that Russia and the USA started to have direct talks, held a meeting between NATO and Russia, and held talks at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
Stating that the Western countries followed a double strategy in the Ukraine crisis, Scholz said that on the one hand, it was stated that if Russia acts aggressively by acting together, harsh sanctions will be applied, and on the other hand, they are in dialogue with Russia in different formats.
Danish Prime Minister Frederiksen also stated that there is a reason why the details of what sanctions will be applied in case of Russia's aggressive behavior are not given, adding, "We agree that if an invasion occurs in Ukraine from a transatlantic perspective, a strong response should be given both economically and politically." said.
Frederiksen stated that Denmark is ready to help Ukraine politically and militarily.
