In April this year, steel production at German steel mills, which are among the world's ten largest steel producers, decreased to 3.197 million tons, down by 1.3% from the previous month and 3.8% from the same month a year earlier.
Steel production down by 5.9% y-o-y in the first quarter
In the first quarter of this year, Germany's steel production decreased by 5.9% y-o-y to 12.35 million tons, pig iron production by 1.8% to 12.35 million tons and hot rolled steel production by 6.5% to 10.89 million tons.
Pig iron, hot rolled steel and steel smelting rates decreased in April
In April, German steel mills' pig iron production decreased by 3.8% mom and 3.4% yoy to 2.07 million tons, while hot rolled steel production decreased by 8.3% mom and 7.2% yoy to 2.73 million tons, the steel smelting rate at the converters decreased by 1.8% mom and 2.4% yoy to 2.26 million tons, while the steel smelting rate at electric arc furnaces increased by 0.1% mom and decreased by 7.2% yoy to 973 thousand tons.
