German steelmaker SHS (Stahl-Holding-Saar) has reportedly signed a 15-year electricity supply agreement with Iberdrola Deutschland, a subsidiary of Spanish energy producer Iberdrola.
Iberdrola will supply approximately 50 MW of electricity from the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea to meet SHS's annual consumption, enabling SHS's subsidiaries Saarstahl and Dillinger to sustainably renew their operations and reduce the carbon footprint of steel production in the future. SHS is expected to achieve its goal of carbon-neutral steel production by 2045.
