Germany's Salzgitter AG has signed an agreement with a consortium of Tenova, Danieli and DSD Steel Group to build a direct reduction plant (DRP) at the site of Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH. The plant, which is part of the SALCOS®, Salzgitter Low CO2 Steelmaking transformation programme, will have a production capacity of more than 2 million tonnes per year of direct reduced iron (DRI).
The direct reduction plant adapts the Energiron ZR® Direct Reduction technology jointly developed by Tenova and Danieli and can be operated with a flexible mix ratio of hydrogen and natural gas.
