Bilstein, a producer of cold rolled steel strip for customers in industries such as automotive, appliance and furniture, was one of the first customers to sign an exit agreement for green steel from Stockholm-based H2 Green Steel.
Founded in 2020 to accelerate the decarbonisation of the steel industry, H2 Green Steel is building the first steel plant to run on green hydrogen in Boden, northern Sweden.
Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2026.
"The contract is an important milestone in significantly reducing our carbon footprint and ensuring that much of our raw material supply is 'green'," said Marc Oehler, CEO of Bilstein Group.
The two companies also said they plan to work together to develop a circular model for improving steel grades, sharing best practices for reducing its carbon footprint, and receiving scrap from Bilstein's production facilities for recycling in H2 Green Steel's operations.
