The value of France's steel exports and imports decreased in 2023 compared to 2022. While the export value decreased by 22.4% in 2023, the import value decreased by 17.8%, ending the year.
According to statistics published by the French Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry, there was also another 11.7% decrease in the value of steel exports in January 2024. It was reported that the decrease in steel exports in France continued. It was determined that steel production in France reached its lowest level in 2023 with the decline in steel exports and imports.
French steelmakers continued to reduce steel production in the first quarter of 2024, with a 4.6% drop in annual steel production rates in January and February 2024 compared to 2023. Following this decline, France ranked 19th among steel producing countries in the global ranking by the WorldSteel Association.
In Europe, weak market conditions since the fall of 2022 were cited as one of the reasons for the decline in steel production, exports and imports.
