According to data released by the French Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry, France's imports of basic steel and ferroalloy products decreased by 18.3% in January-September 2023. Analysing the details of these imports, which amounted to EUR 8.4 billion in total, it is seen that significant decreases were recorded in various steel products.
In particular, the 10.1 per cent decrease in steel pipe imports stands out with a trade volume of EUR 1.64 billion. Cold rolled steel bar imports decreased by 12.5 per cent, cold rolled steel strip by 22.2 per cent and cold drawn wire by 25.6 per cent. In the same period, imports of metal structures and parts decreased by 8.5%, with a trade volume of EUR 1.97 billion.
Among the factors behind this decrease in France's imports of steel and ferroalloy products are global economic fluctuations, supply chain issues and sectoral demand shifts. Such changes, especially in the steel industry, shape economic indicators by affecting trade balances between countries.
