Among the countries to which the ferrous and non-ferrous metals sector exported the most in the January-August period of 2023, Germany ranked first with 1.18 billion dollars, Italy ranked second with 556.6 million dollars and the USA ranked third with 439 million dollars. Çetin Tecdelioğlu, Deputy Chairman of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Istanbul Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters' Association (İDDMİB), stated that they are planning various activities to increase exports in the US market for the future.
Stating that the USA is the world's largest importer, Tecdelioğlu also stated that it has emerged as a very important market for exporters:
"Our sector wants to contribute to our country's foreign trade volume with the USA to reach 100 billion dollars, and to play a key role in this regard. In order to achieve this goal, we expect the removal of customs duties and the facilitation of trade by concluding a free trade agreement. In addition, we would like logistics centres to be established close to the ports in the USA and logistics difficulties to be overcome."
