Feralpi's rebar plant in Germany closes for maintenance

Feralpi Stahl, the German rebar factory of the Italian Feralpi Group, announced that it will stop production for four weeks for repair work.

Feralpi's rebar plant in Germany closes for maintenance

The stop will last from 20 December until about 20 January. Feralpi Stahl noted that such maintenance is carried out at this time every year, but did not say whether the duration was the same as in previous years.

A large number of rebar factories have reduced their production in recent months due to weak demand and are likely to extend maintenance breaks during the winter months. Feralpi Stahl has so far been the only one to make an official announcement to this effect.

This year, the plant has focussed on replacing the frame for the melting furnace, a sturdy steel structure on which the electric arc furnace stands and moves.

In addition, the conversion and addition of billet transport systems between the continuous casting plant and the rolling mill furnace will also be realised. This is an important measure to create a link between the existing steel mill and rolling mill A and the ultra-modern, emission-free rolling mill B, which is currently being built, says Feralpi Stahl. Feralpi Stahl adds that rolling mill B is a key facility for the plant on its way to producing green steel at Riesa.
