According to the port authority's reports, iron ore shipments in March this year reached 50.08 million tons, an increase of 29% compared to the previous month.
Most of the iron ore shipments from Port Hedland in March were routed to China. The amount of iron ore shipped to China reached 42.85 million tons, up 27.9% from the previous month and 6.05% from the same period last year. Additionally, 3.4 million tons of iron ore was shipped to South Korea and 1.8 million tons to Japan.
The Port of Hedland is a trading center with mines owned by major mining companies such as BHP Billiton, Atlas Iron and Fortescue Metals Group.
