According to data compiled by SteelRadar from the Turkish Statistical Institute ( TUIK), September imports of hot rolled coil (HRC) increased by 12.5% yoy and decreased by 3.5% compared to August to 392,650 tons.
September imports at lowest level in the last 5 months
HRC imports increased by 12.5% from 348,899 tons in September last year to 392,650 tons in the same period of this year. The lowest HRC imports were recorded in April with 391,023 tons, while the highest was 698,455 tons in May. September imports were recorded as the lowest level in the last 5 months.
Considering the total import figure for January-September 2022-2023, the total import figure, which was 3,810,178 tons in 2022, increased by 8.46% to 4,132,449 tons in the 9-month period of 2023.
Exports down by 30.4%
Exports in September decreased by 30.4% compared to the same month of the previous year and by 23.66% compared to the previous month to 134,812 tons.
The lowest export figure of the 9-month period was 65,949 tons in January. The highest export figure was recorded in August with 176,602 tons.
In the 9-month period of 2023, Türkiye's total exports decreased by 29.43% to 1,123,216 tons from 1,591,836 tons in January-September 2022.
Based on this data, considering the drop in Türkiye's hot rolled coil imports in September and the trade data for the whole year, it seems that the imbalances and fluctuations in the sector are significant.
