According to customs statistics, in July 2023, Japanese ferrous scrap exports amounted to 566,718 tons, up 30.2% from 435,132 tons in the same month of the previous year. From January to July this year, the country exported 4.03 million tons of scrap metal, up 12.6% year on year.
During this period, South Korea was the largest importer of Japanese scrap, importing 1.77 million tons, up 6.4% year on year. South Korea was followed by Vietnam and Taiwan, which imported 880,083 thousand tons and 580,934 thousand tons of scrap metal, up 11.6% and 89.7%, respectively, year on year.
