The EU rejected the US's proposed solutions to solve tariffs on steel and aluminum, as it sided with domestic producers, considering the offer would violate World Trade Organization (WTO) regulations.
The tariff dispute on steel and aluminum stemmed from the policies put in place in the Trump administration.
The EU and the US set a deadline by October 2023, which aims to reach an agreement on global steel and aluminum regulations and create a sustainable green steel club for the decarbonization goal.
But if the two sides fail to reach an agreement, US tariffs and EU retaliatory measures will automatically resume in October.
