EUROFER supports the initiative to form an alliance with EU institutions and member states to accelerate the environmental transformation of the steel sector.
Axel Eggert, EUROFER CEO, stated that it is critical to protect Europe's steel production and its leadership in clean technology. He added that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen should take note of the proposals for a European Steel Pact and hopes to integrate them into the EU's new legislative cycle.
Christian Ehler, spokesperson of the EPP Industrial Policy Group, emphasized that Europe's steel industry must be competitive by adopting an environmentally friendly business model. He also called for concrete steps to stabilize energy prices and increase demand for "Made in Europe" raw materials.
Creating the conditions for the decarbonization of metallurgy is among the EU's priorities. EUROFER emphasized that the sector needs strong policy supports to ensure the balance between sustainability and competitiveness.
