Ermaden, one of OYAK Mining Metallurgy Companies with roots dating back to 1938, is celebrating its 86th anniversary. As the owner of an iron ore pelletizing plant, Ermaden meets 38% of Türkiye's iron ore production and 16% of iron ore demand by itself.
Since 2006, Ermaden, which was incorporated into OYAK Group Companies, has initiated a significant investment drive following the aforementioned period. Within this framework, the company completed its improvement and modernization investments in a short period of time, and implemented its environmental investments in line with the principle of "sustainability". As part of the environmental investments, dust containment and waste treatment, residual sedimentation dam, landscaping and afforestation investments were quickly completed.
With a "People First" oriented management approach, the company started its occupational health and safety management system studies in 2007 and obtained the OHSAS 18001 certificate in 2009. In 2021, it completed the standard transition process by certifying the TS ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System.
Currently, the company has 15 sites in different regions of Türkiye, including 11 iron, 1 manganese, 1 hard coal-quartz and 2 clay sites, and continues its efforts to open new mining sites and increase reserves. Carrying out one of Türkiye's most important investments in this field, Ermaden has started the mobilization phase in Bingöl Genç Pelletizing Plant investment and started construction activities. Carrying out one of the largest drilling operations in the history of the Republic, the company identified a magnetite iron ore potential of around 250 million tons in the region.
Established with the company's expertise in mining, the facility will enable Erdemir, an OYAK Group Company, to supply a large portion of its pellet needs from national and domestic resources. The facility, which will increase Erdemir's raw material supply security and self-sufficiency in steel production, is also of great importance in terms of reducing the use of imported pellets.
The high profitability to be achieved will mitigate the effects of trade quotas, emission trading systems, commodity crises and disruptions in the supply chain, which have deeply affected the steel industry in recent years, and will also contribute to the competitiveness and sustainability of the group. Bingöl Avnik Pelletizing Plant will directly employ 2,000 people during the construction process and 1,000 people when it becomes operational.
