The UK Department of Business and Trade announced that the opinion collection process for the new Free Trade Agreement (FTA) has started. It was stated that this process will continue until January 5, 2024. During this process, the British government called on the public, business world, civil society and other relevant stakeholders to obtain their views on understanding the economic, environmental and social impacts of the FTA negotiations with Turkey.
In particular, it was emphasized that opinions on issues such as the areas that the British government should prioritize in the new FTA negotiations with Turkey, the difficulties or restrictions encountered in trade or investment, the reaction of businesses in case these restrictions are lifted, increasing trade or attracting more investments are important.
Additionally, UK Consul General in Istanbul Kenan Poleo and Turkey's Embassy in London stated that they want to strengthen strategic relations with an updated FTA and are looking forward to starting negotiations. British Export Minister Malcolm Offord stated that new FTA negotiations will start next year and that economic relations will grow especially in "21st century sectors" such as telecom, Fintech, green energy and advanced industry.
