EMSTEEL Group, in partnership with Yellow Door Energy, a leader in sustainable energy, has announced the launch of the UAE's largest industrial solar rooftop project. With a capacity of 31.5 megawatt-peak (MWp), the project will install high-efficiency solar panels on the rooftops and parking lots of 40 EMSTEEL facilities in the ICAD 1 area of Abu Dhabi. Once completed, the project will generate approximately 50 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean energy per year and significantly reduce EMSTEEL's carbon footprint.
The project will be financed, constructed, operated and maintained by Yellow Door Energy, allowing EMSTEEL to transition to renewable energy without any upfront investment. The use of double-sided solar panels will maximize energy production and increase efficiency. This initiative is directly in line with EMSTEEL's goals to reduce carbon emissions by 40% in steel production and 30% in cement production by 2030. The company's long-term plan is to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
Saeed Ghumran Saeed Al Remeithi, CEO of EMSTEEL Group, stated: “Sustainability is at the heart of our business and reducing our carbon emissions is one of our top priorities. This collaboration with Yellow Door Energy will enable us to power our factories with renewable energy and help us contribute to the UAE's 2050 Net Zero targets.” Jeremy Crane, CEO of Yellow Door Energy, added: “This project clearly demonstrates how effective solar energy can be in helping industrial facilities transition to clean energy. We are proud to support EMSTEEL's sustainability journey.” Construction of the project is scheduled to begin in 2025 and be completed in 2026.
